Hi,
We have been in Rome 3 days and leave by train for Naples tomorrow morning. We have really enjoyed our time here and have spent the days walking, walking and walking!!
Our hotel is a 10 mins walk to the Spanish Steps and a 20mins walk to the Colosseo so you can see we are very central to all the major sights.
Our plane was delayed leaving Hong Kong due to bad weather. Instead of leaving at 12:05am we did not leave until 3:30am. After a 12 hour flight we were feeling very tired but made ourselves keep going. We booked into the hotel around mid day - the coach ride from the airport is another story!! Then we found a hop on hop off bus service that we used to get a feel for the city. This kept us going and after having dinner we fell into bed around 9:00.
After a good nights sleep we had breakfast and then began to walk. We walked to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Collosseo, Old Roman ruins and other historical buildings along the way (lots of them!!)
After reserving a seat on the train to Naples we thought we had a straight walk back to the Pantheon for dinner. A wrong turn on the way led to us getting lost and seein more of the city under lights. We finally made dinner at 10:00pm and enjoyed the atmosphere especially the time to rest our weary legs.
Today we spent our time at the Vatican. Certainly know how to build! St Peters Cathedral was spectacular.
We have had lots of laughs and near misses with the local traffic and lack of road rules! Jennas car with its dents would go well here!!

hi sandy & phil, got your text message. great to hear you are having a good time. after all your walking you will have lost even more weight & be very fit. that means you can enjoy the food even more. rome is a beautiful place. did you throw a coin in the trevi fountain? also, did you see the catacombs? look forward to your next entry. take care & enjoy yourselves. by the way, were will you be on sandy's birthday? love jeeps. xxx

I hope you went to the top of the Basillica!! If I could do it anyone can! Wait until you see or rather hear the traffic in Naples.I'll be thinking of you trekking through Pompeii.Off to Moolooloolooabar soon.Aren't the pizzas and gelati great! love Michelle

The Vatican is amazing! what did you think of the Cistine Chapel. We are looking forward to Moolooaba and the different chapels there.Enjoy the rest of Italy let us know how Venice goes. Love Cathy

Sounds like you are having a great time already. Will you be going to Tuscany at all - you can see the place where the author of 'Under the Tuscan Sun' lives. Have heard that the Island of Murano (off Venice?) is great for murano glass. Saw a segment on 'the collectors' about it. Could get me some beads for my jewellery there???!!! Have spoken to the girls a couple of times and they seem fine - they were off to do the food shopping this morning. Jenna is now going to be here for Mother's Day so she will be coming to the Breakfast also. Sean is well and seems to have settled in to his 'new accommodation'. Jim & Kaye leave for Vanuatu on 26/4/07. Haven't heard about the job yet. Bye for now. XXX

Hi Guys, Sounds like you are having loads of fun and heaps of walking!! Best way to see things though!! We are fine here - Joep is back at the mine and the official take over is end of May and will he be celebrating!!!! Gabriella has started driving lessons with an instructor and is doing well! I took her out on Sat and she did great - although couldnt understand why my underarms were sweating more than usual!!! Nathan is back at school and he now has a maths tutor every Sun - hopefully he will become a bit more school orientated - I can only pray!!! Where do you go after Rome? Cant wait for the next installment!! Cheers Murlen xxxooo
