Hi all, its my turn again !!! (San will audit shortly).
Well we are in Hawaii after an absolutely fantastic time in the "party capital of the world".
By the way a correction in past mails..Imelda not Amelda but I`m sure that everyone jumped on that fairly quickly.
We departed NY faster than anticipated, our shuttle arrived some 20 minutes earlier than the time arranged. There were 4 other groups onboard, most having departure times earlier than us, and all at JFK (ours at Laguardia). Everyone else was rather "twitchy" as we were delivered first. Normal security process, shoes also.
One of our carry on bags questioned but allowed. Landed at Dallas, had to catch train, directions very poor, but managed OK.
Touch down in LV was rather "hairy" and for a moment I thought that we were going to slide sideways down the runway, even one of the attendants appeared from the back and said "what happened there ?". (Confidence in American Airways is fast fading). No comp meals or drinks apart from soft and H2O.
First thing you see when you step into the terminal, "slot machines", welcome to Vegas. Shuttle to Treasure Island, great hotel, excellent location in the middle of the strip. (Pridmore Rd Travel Agency, doing a great job). Room had great view and also KS bed.
As we arrived late, we decided to walk the "strip" to get a feel then had a drink and crashed, as the day had been long due to early rise and time change. (We had planned to eat but fell asleep and woke too late much to Phil's disgust!!)
Next morning walked south to Mandalay Hotel, viewing externally with the plan to revisit each hotel/casino. All that I can say is "what a massive place, and where did all the people come from !".
Along our walk we purchased tickets for that night to "Cirque Du Soleil- Mystere" which just happened to be at T/Island. We also investigated our trip to the G/Canyon and settled on a helicopter trip for Friday from "Bolder" to the G/C, travelling down the canyon nearly to the bottom, landing and spending 45 mins enjoying the scenery and having a champers lunch.(We travelled to and from Bolder in a Limo).
We enjoyed a meal that evening (Wed) at one of the many restaurants in the complex, then thoroughly enjoyed the diversity/colour/skills and overall"wow" factor of the Cirque. Brilliant show.
Thursday saw us walk north to view the other end of the strip. (A long walk by the way, they operate shuttles, but we decided to walk even in the heat). Along the way we purchased tickets for Friday night to (Yes this is his name) Hans KLOK (Magician) with his assistant (briefly) Pammy Anderson. That night we ate outside at a beautiful French Rest (Mon ami ) and enjoyed an outdoor floorshow by the french can-can dancers from next door. There was also a fantastic water display to music across the way every 30 mins. Thousands!! of people walking the streets and filling up all of the casinos.
Friday we were collected by our limo and driven to Bolder. Matt our pilot advised that the other passengers were a no show, so we had a personalised trip, along with a young lad, brother of an employee of the firm. We both sat in the front, and San was a little nervous until we had been travelling for a few moments. What an absolute blast. Magnificent trip, travelling over the Hume Dam (eagle view), the meandering Colorado river then the G/Canyon. Decending down into the Canyon and landing was great. The views were breath taking to say the least. We could not visit the new viewing platform on this trip, but we flew past it, and I was disappointed in that it was not a big as I thought, and also it is tucked away in a side canyon. We also flew over the viewing spot where bus trips stop (am I glad we did not go by bus !!). Many photos taken, although I must admit we were both absorbed on the way there, that we nearly forgot. The trip back was excellent, with Matt providing a very detailed commentary. (He was great).
That evening we went to see Hans Klok (magician) who provided a real LV show, with colourful dancers etc. He was also (ably ???) assisted by Pam Anderson. She really confirmed that she cant act ,cant speak, but everyone screamed approval, not sure why...!!!!!!!
Overall the show was worth attending and his tricks even had Sandra saying, "how did he do that ??".
Saturday morning, I headed off to the ticket office to buy half price tickets to "The Legends in Concert" . You can only purchase on the day of the show etc. After a late rise we headed off to one of the largest fashion outlet complex`s, approx 20 mins nth. I have never seen so many shops, especially given all of the ones on the strip in the hotel/casino complexes. Afterwards we ate at Pho ( Vietnamese- T/Island), then attended show. We saw, Ricky Martin, Bruce Springsteen, Janet Jackson, The Blues Brothers, Whitney Houston and to top the show Elvis. Believe it or not it was a very enjoyable night, as they were supported by a full troupe of dancers/singers in colourful LV gear. Afterwards we journeyed back to our hotel and enjoyed the half hour free outside entertainment. It is a Pirate theme, taking place on two life-size gallions, outside the hotel, with one boat actually moving and then sinking. Great free entertainment, including fireworks, explosions, girls dancing and singing.
Next morning, back to packing and catching planes etc, on our journey to Hawaii. We flew to LA via smaller jet, then changed to the huge monster, having the displeasure of having the last seats in the plane, again. Complained a number of times, but nothing happened. American Airlines, never again.
Thanks again for your comments etc, this will probably be our last written "blog" as we will be on the beach for the next three days, enjoying the 30 degrees, but we will post photos when we return.
Chow for now....

Hi all, firstly thanks for all of your mails and updates.
Well to be corny "how time flies", with a blink 7 weeks have passed and we are into our last 14 sleeps...scary, but we are both looking forward to getting home and into routines. ( Pigs !!).
Lets get the important things out of the way, I hear that the Crows lost to Melb (who have not won a game all year)...!!!!!!
Yes I know that the Power lost as well, but it's all part of the plan (I hope).
Our exit from Dublin went very smoothly until we passed through the security scanners etc. Saddam Sandra had forgotten some "items" that she had left in our carry-on luggage. Need I say more than, a few anxious moments were experienced, but overall the security personnel were very understanding and assisted us to reach a mutual resolution. (Sandra will advise upon her return).
Our plane trip was OK and tail winds shortened travel time by an hour. No individual TV`s and the meal was just OK..!, had to buy drinks..!!
Upon arrival we seemlessly secured a "shuttle" for $17 each, far cheaper than leaving London. Traffic and two other dropoffs, saw a journey of 1.5 hrs, but it would have taken me three days to navigate.
Our hotel is in a magnificent location in 32nd st. just off 6th ave. The street has many Korean Rest's, so is known as "Little Korea". The view from our window is the Empire State Building which is in the next block. After dropping luggage we headed off to Times Square and to feel this wonderful city. We had a drink at an outdoor bar, and dinner at another to end the day.
Wed 30th. Given our location is half way between uptown and downtown, we decided to walk downtown to "Battery Park" to catch a ferry to The Statue of Liberty. On the way we zig zagged and discovered Greenwich Village, SOHO, Little Italy and Chinatown. What an amazing city, such diversification to the max. On the way we visited 911 (ground Zero), St Pauls church, which was the central support area post t`strike. They have on display many items giving a vivid picture of the impact that was felt at the time, and the bonding of all to the one cause. At the 911 site, a display of children's messages re lost fathers, mothers, relatives, friends brought home the reality/impact of the real loss.
Access to the statue was unavailable, so we settled for a cruise around the island and harbour, which was very enjoyable and many photo`s taken.
On our journey back, we located a restaurant run by two Aussie`s, called 8 Mile Creek. We enjoyed one of our best meals in their outdoor area, then walked back to 32nd street. (I think its about 3miles eachway, so a big walk (especially for those of us with shorter legs).
Thursday 31st. Crossed the road and went to the top of the Empire State Building. For those of you who have been there, you know just how breathtaking the view is. We were lucky as not many tourists there when we arrived, but by hell there were a few when we left..!!!!
Next H-O-H-O (Hop-on-hop-off), good value as there are 4 tours, Uptown, downtown, Brooklyn, and a night (lights) tour. We elected for the downtown first. It covered where we had walked the day before, so we were re-assured that we did well the day before. Upon return we joined the queue for half priced theatre tickets. It took an hour, but two shows for the price of one was well worth it. San wanted to see the "Pirate Queen" produced by the same people as Riverdance, so I elected for a laugh and went to see "Spamalot"... a Monty Python musical. (Bloody hysterical). We ate at Hard Rock Cafe then separated for our shows which both started at the same time and were only two blocks away from each other. Another great day.
Friday 1st. Decided to finish HOHO as only good for 48 hours. Took the downtown again , leaving at Wall Street, then walked to Pier 17.
We then joined the Brooklyn tour which lasted 90 minutes, nothing spectacular, just as I expected. We were given the opportunity to walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge, ie Brooklyn to Manhattan. Again great for those of us with longer legs!!!
Next was the "uptown tour" past Central Park etc. I dont think I could afford a front door let alone a one room apartment. We had dinner, then joined a "night tour" to cover the city lights, both in Manhattan and Brooklyn. V` enjoyable, but we were hearing the same commentary, and the request for tips was driving us mad, after spending most of the day on HOHO.
Sat 2nd. Time out to ring the girls and get a verbal update of the state of the nation at home. Afterwards we set off for the Central Station and Rockefeller Centre & St Paul's Cathedral (I think that I am over churches for awhile). We enjoyed the artwork at the RC, and then decided to take a Horse & Carriage ride through Central Park. A great way to spend time looking at the lush growth, water ways, and most of all the people who obviously enjoy getting out into the park. No wonder as most of the city is concrete.
We again walked back, and dined in one of the "Little Korean" Restaurants in our street. We had Beef/Squid/Vegs BBQ`d at our table, a most enjoyable culinary experience.
Today 3rd. Domestic day. We set off to locate a laundramat, and luckily found one only two blocks away on 30th between 5th and 6th ave. The next best thing is that washing/powder/drying a reasonable amt was about $8-00. (Bargain Joyce !!).
Next it was assisting Imelda when she hit Macey`s. (No more to be said, but the cc took a battering).
When we emerged, it had been raining, and as I finish off it is still raining, memories of London, although every day until today has been close to 30. Due to the rain and our enjoyable dinner last night we again hit "little Korea" tonight, this time enjoying Dumplings (Pork/Seafood/Veg`s) and Pad Thai washed down with the only "red" that they sold, an enjoyable Merlot from Australia.
We selected this rest, as they make all of the dumplings at the front and we have observed with curiosity for a number of days.
Tomorrow we are again off to "Battery Park"...(walking.??) to get a ferry to Ellis Island to view the Immigration Museum, then we will try to cover what we have forgotten before we fly out to Las Vegas early on Tuesday.
Trust all is well with everyone, we will update again in LV. Thanks again for your comments. By the way San (Imelda) is next door reading her book !!!!! Cheers from the Big "A".

We boarded the ferry for Belfast without incident, and I must say that the ferry was extremely impressive. (Not like the ferries that I have travelled on in the past!!).
There were great lounge areas, bars, eateries galore, children areas, machine game areas etc etc. The crossing was gentle and went quickly.
Upon arrival we collected our bags and proceeded to collect our car. It became evident very quickly that no such commodity existed at the ferry terminal as we had been advised. After some questions we established that our car was at the airport (the only Hertz car rental area in Belfast). A £7-00 fare saw us collect our car and head off to arrange accomodation. We drove through the city streets a few times, familiarising ourselves, then San went off to the "Info" office to book accom. The B&B was about 2 miles from the city, located on a major road with cafes and shops on both sides. Of course our room was at the top of 3 flights of stairs, but the owner (Theodore) was very helpful and room was good. We asked re Black Cab tours and he advised that he new of a driver who was a character and a set price etc, and would pick us up. We had a quick coffee across the road while we waited then headed off on the tour. The guide was definately a character, repeating every sentence about three times (we must have looked backward or something!!).
Anyway the tour was 75mins, and well worth the effort. I must admit that my knowledge of the "trouble between the Catholics and Protestants" was now vague, but after visiting the streets and seeing the murals first hand, it all came back. Our guide provided much historical information and his passion was evident. Although things have quietened in Belfast, you can feel that the division is still alive.!! A very interesting tour.
We were dropped off in the city so began to familiarise ourselves with a walk. We visited City Hall where a local cultural food fair/festival was on, (food from France/Holland/Germany/Italy), then walked to the famous Crown Hotel (National Trust building) known for its individual booths and stained glass windows. We had a drink and avoided a downpour while doing so. We caught a bus home, then ate at a local rest across the road and turned in.
Another great "cooked breaky" then we headed off to view the north, especially the Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede (rope bridge). We took the scenic coast road.
We were informed that the weather was going to turn so to hurry. Luckily we viewed both spots at length without any rain. Initially San did not want to cross the bridge, but age is making her more adventurous, and she made it over and back, even posing for photographs.
We booked our nights B&B accom at the Giant's Causeway Info office, at a farm located to the north "Ballyhenry House" at Limavady (Londonderry).
After a reasonable drive, (although you quickly realise that both Scotland and Ireland are not that big compared to good old Aust) we located our B&B.
It was located on a farming property and due to cancellations we had a double area which is usually self catering, and brand new. It was very luxurious, probably one of the best that we have encountered on our journey. We journeyed (a couple of miles) to a local hotel and enjoyed one of the best meals of our trip. Barb, you will be pleased to know that I had duck (served double portions) without asking..!!!
Next day we joined native locals on holiday at breakfast (as a local holiday on Monday), then headed off for Dublin. The drive through the countryside was pleasant with everything green green green, but obviously not as spectacular as Scotland. Along the way we stopped off at Londonderry and walked the old city wall, taking in all of the history via info boards along the journey. You can also see the murals on buildings outside the wall, along with fortified police stations (same as Belfast).
We arrived in Dublin, and we quickly realised that it was a much bigger city than we had anticipated. After some frustration with signage (lack of), one way streets, we located the tourist information building, which closed at 3pm, and it was 5pm.
We had noticed B&B`s on the way in, so our plan was to head back to that road and investigate. Easier said than done, but after some further frustration we located a nice B&B (again at the top of three flights of stairs) which is only 10 mins from the airport.
After catching a bus to the city we walked the streets for a short time ending up at "Temple Bar" along with hundreds of other locals and tourists (obviously the place to be). We both enjoyed Irish Stew and a drink, then walked back to a I`cafe and called the girls. It was 6-00am, but as we told them, we had waited a few hours to be nice.!!!
The last bus home, ready for our last day in Ireland.
Today we enjoyed b`fast (fresh fruit salad and toast etc) then drove to the airport to check everything out for tomoz, as our plane for New York leaves at 10-00am, and we don't want any surprises.
It is only ten minutes from our accom, so should be easy.
We left the car, and caught a bus to the city, then jumped on a Hop-on-Hop-off bus to get a good understanding of the city. Just as we started, a hail storm came from no-where, luckily we were under shelter, but many were not.
We stayed on the trip a second time around and departed to tour the Guiness Museum and factory !! San decided not to go in, but I spent about 1-30 hrs touring etc.
Afterwards we ate dinner at O`Neils Pub, we both enjoyed a massive pork roast (recommend to anyone heading here), and updating the blog.
On the way home we may call in for a last drink in Ireland, then pack for our flight tomoz.
Our next update should be from the "Big Apple".
Trust everyone is well and please keep your comments coming as we enjoy reading them.

We booked our Minard Castle B&B in St Andrews, and arrived approx 6`ish on the 23rd after a long drive from Drumnadrochit.
The (unfortified castle) was situated on Loch Fyne approx a mile from the main road. Entry was via a forrest, which neighbouring trees were being harvested by the forrestry dept. The castle was extremely impressive and everything that we had wished for. We were greeted at the front door and ushered into the main hall which was fully decorated and adorned with deer heads from hunting trips of years past. Our room was at the top of an ancient (creaky) staircase, and we were watched all the way by the eyes contained on many large portraits which adorned the walls.
Our room was of a high quality, and we were also informed that we had exclusive use of the large drawing room. The house manager also informed that although we were not the only ones staying, we would probably not see anyone else until morning. They also advised that the rather "large" front doors would be locked and alarmed at 11pm.
We decided to walk down to the "Loch" via rather saturated ground, then took to walking through the gardens. Along the way we met the gardner, who gave us some background on the property and its current owners. There were a few donkeys and a horse "elvis" in one paddock, and many batum? hens running free.
We travelled into "Furnace" and ate at the local hotel. It was what I had been looking for all of our trip, an open wood fire, and a local meal washed down with rose`(the wife) and guiness for mine.
We drove back, watched the soccer on TV in the drawing room, then retired.
No Ghosts, but we were awoken about 11-15, by the sound of a bell constantly being rung. It went on and on, I thought of assisting, but did not know where the key was, plus it was alarmed.
Finally I went downstairs and spoke through the door to find that two elderly Americans who were staying a few nights had been locked out. They were not happy chaps, let me tell you, and I dont blame them as they would have spent a good hour trying to get some attention. I finally made contact with the manager, and he let them in. ( Lesson- dont stay out late if you are sleeping in a castle).
We had a very enjoyable breakfast overlooking the front gardens and Loch, then headed off for Straraen.

We weren't far wrong in our prediction at cost to get to Gatwick Airport from hotel. Taxi to Victoria Station was £15. Train to Gatwick was £14.95 each. Taxi tried to drive us to Gatwick with a special offer of £70!!
At the airport there was a lot of security. More so than Hong Kong!! We were both only allowed 1 bag each on the plane so we had to do some quick thinking as we both had 2 each of hand luggage. Through security check everyone was made to take their shoes off.
Flight was good and quick to Edinburgh. On arrival we caught a shuttle bus to train station in the city and then a taxi to our B.B. It was a nice place only minus was we were upstairs and taking bags up a bit of a chore! We were a 2km walk to city centre or there was a bus stop right out front. After settling in we chose to walk back to the city to explore on foot even if it was sprinkling with rain-we are use to it now.
We walked up and down the three main streets and then stopped and had a drink in a bar as it was now around 7:00. It does not get dark until 10:00 so there is plenty of light to do things. Shops still close at 5:30.
After our drink we began looking for somewhere to eat. After lots of walking and seeing more of the city we began to head back to the B.B. as we new there was a pub around the corner. On the way we came across an Italian restaurant so stopped there. A good choice. We had a great meal. When we came out it had been raining so we made a quick dash home.
Surprise Surprise on waking we discovered it was still raining. (18/5/07) Had a cooked breakfast and met a nice couple from Orregan-America.
(Me now..) Day two was aimed at viewing Edinburgh and the Castle.
Again we walked into the city centre and boarded the hop-on-hop off bus for a tour of the city. I must say that it is a very impressive city and we both especially loved the old section. The rain did hold off for awhile, but when it decided to fall, we just moved downstairs, going back up top when the sun came out. We alighted the second time around, at the Castle, and spent an enjoyable number of hours viewing a most marvellous place, full of history etc. (Sandy listened to the commentary via audio and related to me).Afterwards we walked the "royal mile" to the palace, but unfortunately it was closed due to "Gov Gen in residence until 1/6".
Across the road is the new modern Scottish Parliament buildings, so we went and viewed, very abstract design. We then waited for a bus which never turned up so as it started to rain heavily, called into a pub for some refreshments. (Every second building was a pub..luv the place).
When the rained ceased we headed back to the B&B stopping for a "Thai" on the way.
19th...After another delicious b`fast we headed off to collect the rental car. Queue took 2 hours, so glad we went early. Back to B&B to collect luggage then headed off to St Andrews.
Trip semi uneventful, arriving early afternoon. Walked the streets, then called in at the info`centre re accom. Obtained a B&B just a few metres from the i`centre in the heart of St A. Lovely B&B £40-00pn each. Toured the town, visited the Old Club House, then had a lovely meal and turned in.
20th...Breakfast provided in the room(fresh fruit/perc coffee/toast etc), then walked amongst the golf courses and undertook the "18 putting holes". I think more practice is req before getting on the course.
We headed off for Loch Ness (Drumnadrochit), via "Perth and Kinross, Fort william and Spean Bridge." Absolutely spectacular scenery, from baron mountains, to Lochs surrounded by forests, then mountains still with snow peaks and ice still embedded in the craigs. A most enjoyable experience. One funny experience along the way, in the middle of nowhere was a vehicle approaching with siren and lights flashing, which turned out to be a bomb disposal unit. We have experienced the normal vehicles with sirens blazing, but never a bomb unit.
We arrived at Drumnadrochit (prev booked accom for two nights)and walked around the small village then enjoyed a meal at a semi pub/rest as the local hotel was booked. The accom was very good, with the manager extremely helpful, and a lovely cooked b`fast each morning.
21st...We headed off for a recommended walk through the woods, to access Loch Ness, and "touch the water". Afterwards we headed off to tour, Urquardt castle and "Glen Affric". The drive through "Glen A" was spectacular, viewing magnificent waterfalls and Lochs & forests. We undertook some "walks", which certainly tested our stamina. It was refreshing to get out of the car and walk again, as we had undertaken so much prior to the previous few days.
After we drove down and visited Fort Augustus, hoping to find a !`net cafe along the way. (Did not happen).
Enjoyed a tour around the village, viewed the canal system, then had a drink and headed back to Drum`it. Enjoyed a meal at the hotel to finish a most enjoyable day.
22nd...Enjoyed another w`ful b`fast then headed off for the Isle of Skye.
We stopped at a beautiful small village/port (Plonkton). Absolutely picturesque, called into the local gallery, local craft fair, then onto tour the island.
Again absolutely magnificent, unbelievable scenery. Waterfalls abound, mist covering the mountains, rain, sunshine, ice covered mountains and sheep. (No fences, just move them off the road if you hit one!! Only jok`n). A wonderful experience, breathtaking. We toured to the top, 2 Staffin", then turned around and headed back. We spent the night at Kyleakin, nothing much happens at Kyleakin.
23rd...Breakfast and then off to Minard Castle, stopping along the way at Nevis Range to undertake a ride on the cablecar to the top of the mountains. It was a fifteen minute ride there and 15 back again. View was again spectacular, but limited due to low cloud.
Our castle experience was everything that we thought it would be. (No ghosts). We are about out of time, so will elaborate at next update re the castle.
24th...Up with a delicious b`fast and on the road by 8-30 to ensure that we delivered our rental car back at Stranraer by 12-00. After a few anxious moments along the way we arrived about 15 mins late. Hence we are updating and catching the Ferry to Belfast tomoz.

Rain still about but after speaking to Jen who had good advice and said Mum you put on your coat, use your umbrella and just walk!! So that's what we did. First we walked to Oxford street. We visited a Primart Store for Phil. Then we walked down Bond and Regent Street.
Sandy called into the National Gallery and saw an exhibition of Monet's earlier work of his drawings and pastels which she enjoyed while Phil took cover in a coffee shop around the corner! Then we walked to Westminster Abby. We were very surprised at the size of the cathedral and enjoyed our walk around. A very interesting place to visit. Then we walked home to change for the theatre. We were going to see the Mouse Trap.
We caught the bus again into Piccadilly Circus. Walking to the West End we saw Leister Square. We were going to find something to eat there but we were running out of time so decided to find something closer to the theatre. Ate at an Italian Rest. and had a really enjoyable pasta.
The Mouse Trap was an enjoyable play. Very nice theatre. Not a full audience but what can you expect after running for 45 years!! Once again walked to Oxford Circus to catch the bus back to the hotel. Happy to say no rain!.
This morning we missed breakfast again to have our last sleep-in. Had a final visit to the laundromat as we won't be washing again until we get to New York. This afternoon we are going to enjoy a walk through Hyde Park and walk to Harrods for a traditional English afternoon tea. We may even go to the movies.
Tomorrow we have an early start. We catch a taxi to Victoria Station, then a train to Gatwick. Not a cheap exercise to get to the airport. Approx 40pounds for the both of us!! London has been fun and while the weather hasn't been fantastic we have both grown to like it. The only down side, it is very expensive!!
Keep well.

After a very active day on the Saturday walking everywhere we had a lazy day on the Sunday as we did a bus tour to Stonehenge, Bath and the Cotswolds. We decided to do this instead of hiring a car and driving ourselves as weather has not being good and predicted rain for more days. It was an early start as we had to be at the pickup spot by 7:30.am Lucky for us it was just up the street.
Needless to say the day started off with rain and as we got into the countryside it got heavier and did not stop for most of the day!! Stonehenge was really interesting but we did not spend long and the rain and wind made it difficult to spend the required time to ponder on what happened so long ago. Most people I speak to have similar experiences of their visit to Stonehenge with the weather. We stopped at a small pub for lunch on our way to Bath. We sat next to a young couple from Sydney who were off to Ireland the next day. Pub meal was ok but expensive for what we got.
When we arrived in Bath we had a total of 50mins to do a tour of the Roman Baths. This was interesting and we were enjoying the audio but at the end it was a rush to complete and get on the bus. Unfortunately that was Bath. Yes it was raining so we did not get to see the prettiness of the river or the little streets busy with people. It is one place I would like to come back to with Phil as I visited it with Jen and it is a really pretty place in the summer.
Driving through the Cotswolds was really pretty and we would like to come back and do our original plan of hiring a car and visiting many of the little villages in this region at our leisure.
We stopped at Stratford Upon Avon to visit Shakespeares Birthplace. We were greeted with a champagne and strawberries and cream scone which was very nice. After our visit we headed home which was another 2 hours on the bus. Lucky for us we were dropped off close to the hotel and we only had a short walk to the hotel. Dinner that night was a shared pizza at a place around the corner from the hotel.
Surprisingly we were tired after very little except sit on the bus and look out the window!!
Monday we had a very lazy day and had a sleep-in and missed breakfast. We spent the morning doing washing at the laundramat just around the corner from our hotel. Thanks to SJ this has been a great hotel. It is very central and walking distance to everything. The good thing it is reasonably priced. We also updated blog and checked emails.
Late in the afternoon we caught the bus to Piccadilly Circus and found a popular place to eat called The Stockpot. Then we walked to the Westend to see the musical Mary Poppins. We were early so we found a great little eatery and had a drink and people watched. We were in Soho and a gay area so it was interesting viewing. We thoroughly enjoyed the musical and had great seats. We then walked through Soho nightlife to catch a bus home. Yes it was cold and rain was hovering. Thanks to Kathie for the umbrella. It has had a work out.

Thanks for all the messages you have been sending. Its great reading them and hearing news from home. It's good to know you are enjoying the read.
I now know why there is no rain in Australia. Since we have been in London we have had to put up with the rain. The first few days were intermittent but yesterday 13th it rained non stop. As to be expected by night it slowed down.
On Saturday we had a very busy day walking. We started by walking to the Portabello Markets at Nottinghill. We had heard of these markets but were a little disappointed. They were mainly for people who were looking for antiques. Lots of second hand silver, china, pictures, clothes and jewellery. At the end of the long street were the food markets. Not as good as what we saw in Versaille.
After walking up and down the street we headed for Royal Albert Hall. Could not get inside unless taking a tour and there was not one until later in the day.
Then we walked to Harrods walking through Kensington Gdns. The street we took had lots of Embassy Homes. At each end of the street there were gates with guards.
Harrods was very big, very easy to get lost and very expensive. We fell upon the statue of Dodi and Diana at the escalators going up to the 2nd floor. Not sure what Diana would think if she was alive!! We visited the cafe that sold nothing but chocolate. Highly recommended by Jen!
Next stop was to be Buckingham Palace but we had a forced stop at a cafe on the way due to a very heavy shower of rain. Once it cleared we made our way to Buckingham Palace and had a walk around. Phil thought it would be more imposing! Next stop was Covent Garden to have dinner at the restaurant that Cait works at. It is an upmarket burger place. We fell upon Covent Garden market and had a browse before stopping at a pub for a drink and to rest our weary feet. By this stage we had been on them for most of the day!! Then we had dinner and had a quick catch up with Cait as she was extremely busy. There was a 20mins waiting time to get a table but we were lucky as we didn't have to wait. After dinner we walked back to the hotel. Our feet were very tired at the end.
Hope you are all well.

Well I have the "power" again, so here goes.
We left Paris via the Metro (conveniently located across the road), and after changing to another line, arrived at the departure station without incident and plenty of time to spare.
We enjoyed some breathing time before boarding the "fast Eurail", arriving safely in London. We again estabished that we had to travel via the underground to Paddington, arriving without any grief at 4 pounds a ticket. Luckily Paddington station is one block from our hotel, great location, just a block from Hyde Park. Those Glen Osmond booking agents are really looking after us.
It was about 4 in the afternoon so we decided to walk down Oxford Street, taking in the shops and soaking up the atmosphere.
Later we enjoyed dinner at a local pub, San had some Rose' and I enjoyed a few Guiness. Earlier that day we had contacted Caitlin and arranged to meet next morning.
We suggested the proverbial Hop-on-hop-off bus, and Caitlin was really keen to come along. It is the longest tour that we have encountered, but it was very enjoyable.
We stopped off on the way for lunch at another pub, then joined the ride again.
I undertook the London Eye ride, which was fantastic, while the girls went looking in shops etc. Caitlin, left us at that time and we decided to walk back to our hotel, which was a long but enjoyable journey. (perhaps we may have taken a wrong turn here or there). It was great catching up with a familiar face , and Caitlin and San spent the majority of the time exchanging stories etc. She looked well and obviously is enjoying her time with many travelling plans in place for later this year. Later that evening we ate at a small Italian Restaurant in the street next to the hotel, but meal was very average and not overly enjoyable.
The weather held off on our bus trip but looked threatening most of the day, with a slight shower as the night approached.
Next day (10th..I think) we decided to visit The Tower of London and the Tower Bridge.
Magnificent to say the least, but I think all of your reading this have already been there. The jewels are certainly worth seeing. It rained most of the time, so it was a good choice to visit that day.
Later we walked the bridge, and then undertook the tour across the top and also the engine room below.
Once again we decided to walk back to St Paul's to catch the bus back to Paddington, but once again seemed to take the wrong street. No majors though we soon got back on track. (All my fault of course!!!).
We arrived back OK, then ate a local Indian Restaurant, which was very nice, except the waiter tried to "upsell on every opportunity" I think that I will give him a job.
Today we headed off to Windsor Castle. Luckily it was a short train ride from our station (Paddington). The sky was blue for a short period, but then normality set in with periods of slight showers.
The Castle was what I had been expecting in the other touristy castles, apart from the one in Saumur. Luckily the weather and being a Friday must have kept the crowds down, so minimal queueing and a most enjoyable day.
The visit gave a more realistic overview of the history dating right back, and the thing that we liked the most was the fact that the castle was still in use ( being lived in etc ).
Another great day, I will sign off as someone is waiting to use etc. The I-N is free here.

Bonjour again,
Well we have arrived in Paris and for once the hotel is just down the road from the station. We still caught a taxi because of the luggage-10euros. Taxis charge for carrying luggage!!
Paris is just as beautiful as I remember it. After settling in we decided to go for a stroll and before long we ended up at the Louvre. Phil was impressed with the size and he also got his first look at the Eiffel Tower. We then walked back and found a cafe to eat not far from the hotel.
Early in the evening received text messages wishing me happy birthday but on Paris time I was still 49 and staying that way! Woke to the fact that there was no more denials and I was now 50. I have to say I felt really good and why not. Not every day you get to turn 50 in Paris!!
We started the day by doing a hop on hop off tour so Phil could get a feel for the city. We then walked down The Champs Elysees and stopped off at Paul's Bakery for a baguette highly recommended by Jen. A little further on we stopped and people watched and of course celebrated with a champagne. Then we were off to climb the 286 steps of The Arc De Triomphe. The view was magnificent. We especially enjoyed watching the peak hour traffic manage the 12 roads that feed into the round about!
Next stop was the Eiffel Tower and I think for every other tourist in Paris. It was cold, rain was threatening and we had to wait about an hour to catch the lift from the second floor to the top. The view was not as good due to the overcast conditions but you could still see for miles! After another long wait to get from the top to the 2nd floor we decided to walk from the 2nd floor to the bottom. This some mighty feat coming from someone who is not too good with heights and while in the lift I don't look out. It was over 1000 steps and when we got to the bottom both of us had legs that felt a bit like jelly! Then we had to walk back to the hotel. We were forced to stop at a cafe not far from the Eiffel Tower due to a rather heavy shower of rain that managed to clear by the time we finished dinner. The walk was further than we thought but still enjoyable and allows you to walk off the very enjoyable meal.
On Saturday we continued with the hop on hop off tour. There are 4 different parts of Paris to see. It was not a particularly enjoyable day because rain threatened for most of the day and it was particularly cold. We had planned on going to Monet's Garden but not a lot of choice with train timetable and we had paid for hop on hop off so needed to do it. We visited the cathedral de Notre Dame. On the way home we walked to the Latin Quarter and found a lovely little french restaurant. The tables are so close you can't help meet people and we met a couple from America who had flown to Paris for 4 days to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
On Sunday we had fun once again catching the metro to Station Saint Lazare. Only problem we came out onto a side street, could not find the main train station and asked a non English speaking French person where the train station was and he took us to another metro line streets away! After many tickets and lots of confusion we finally found our way to Varseille to see the chateau. On arrival to our great delight there was a wonderful local fresh produce market in the main street. We of course had to buy so we bought bread, cheese, salami and olives and made our way to the chateau. Outside under some trees we had a picnic. It was delightful and gave us plenty of energy to do the 3 plus hour audio tour around the chateau. At 5.30pm we had had enough, our feet were beginning to kill so we caught the train back to Lazare Station and then the metro to our hotel without any fuss!! Big mistake as we sat on the bed to catch the news of the election and yes we both had a bit of shut eye. We ate dinner at a cafe up the road, wary of a bit of unrest due to election but all quiet and no problem at all.
Today our target is to visit the Louvre and just relax and enjoy our last day in Paris!
Au revoir from us!

When we arrived in Paris on our way to the Valley, once again another challenge arrived when we became aware that out train to Tours departed from a different station. Rather than have an hour and a half for a coffee etc, we had to catch two different Metro lines to get to Mountparnasse station. We arrived with 5 minutes to spare!!!!! ( This is becoming a daily event). We travelled for about an hour then caught a 5 minute trf train to Tours, waited about an hour then travelled for a further 50 mins to Saumur. We arrived at the station with no-one to collect us. Yes I received some grief. After a few minutes Michaela appeared with a sign and we were off. The accom was about 20k's from Saumur in the valley. Michaela and Sue had elected for a sea change, and decided to start a b&b, accom with wine tours. Michaela ran her own software company in the UK and Sue was in the Wine Industry. La Grande Maison, was a beautiful old small winery, surrounded by a stone wall, with a number of small buildings that had been converted into accom etc. We settled in then went for a walk through the vineyards to a small village, with dogs barking and chickens making the only noise.
That evening we were joined by another couple from London staying for about 5 days, in a special dinner accompanied by local wines. Experience was wonderful, except for the first course of baked egg in a cheese sauce, which took a while to get over!!!
The next morning we cycled into another larger village, visited the church which is linked to the Notre Dame in other regions. We then bought bread, cheese and wine and cycled back for lunch. Later in the afternoon Michaela & Sue were heading into Saumur, so offered us the opportunity to visit the shops and Castle for about 90 mins.It was the first REAL castle that we had seen with moat, bridge etc. Village was full of shops, of course. That evening we walked back to the village (approx 2 km's) for dinner at the only restaurant. George and Sal joined us, and we enjoyed another beautiful local meal. Luckily they had a car, as when we left to go home, there were no street lights, moon or stars to guide us if we had to walk.
Unfortunately we had to leave the next day, so had a lazy start, had a tour of the cellars:caves which we did not know existed at La Grande Maison, then onto the station heading for 5 days in Paris.
Au Revoir for now.

My patience is being tested today on a French keyboard. I have typed this 5 times as keep losing it because I am pressing the wrong key!! Slow learner.
We spent the afternoon doing a hop on hop off tour and really enjoyed this one. We got to go up the hill and have a great view of Nice. We were also taken into the residential area and saw some great villas! After the tour we went for a walk down the promenade and could not get over the beach. It is not until you come away that you really appreciate what we take for granted in Australia. People were sunbaking on what we thought was a cool day. They were lying on rocks and pebbles! The beach was crowded. We ate in the busy part and had an enjoyable meal.
The next day we were up early to catch a train to Monaco. We had to be back by 2pm as our train was leaving for Marseille at 3.50pm.
Monaco is very pretty. They have a new train station and it is very elaborate. We walked to the palace and as only we could, we walked the long way. We saw the changing of the guards and did an audio tour of the palace. As to be expected it was very beautiful. We had lunch outside the palace taking in the beautiful view of the harbour. We also did a train tour of the city. We did not get to visit inside the casino as was on the other side and to walk would have made us late for the train.
Walking back to the train once again we saw more of Monaco than planned. It is very hilly and we kept going up and couldn't find a road to take us down. We new we were close, it didn't help that the railway station from the outside doesn't look like a railway station!
A big problem when we arrived because we found out their was a rail strike and our train to Nice had being cancelled and the next one was not due until 4.00pm. Quick thinking got us on a bus that arrived at the good old bus station an hour before our train left but then we had the task of getting a taxi. No easy feat in Nice! We got to the train station 5 mins before our train left.
We arrived in Marseille and caught a taxi to the hotel. Thanks to the girls we were not staying around the train station. Marseille reminded us of Naples. We ate at a great little French restaurant a short walk from the hotel and really enjoyed the atmosphere. french music playing in the background and lots of fun ordering as the menu was all in French! We left Marseille early the next day for the Loire Valley. Interesting our taxi to the hotel was 20euro and 10euro from the hotel to the station!!

Again asked directions, finally understanding that we had to go downstairs to the underground, and travel on one line for about 7 stops, then change to another line for a further 7 stops to reach our bus terminal.
No problems quite straightforward in the end.
Arrived at bus station at 2.30 with bus leaving at 7.00pm.
Luckily we had lunch at the main station, as not much on offer.
Bus Ok but seats not very comfy, stopped at Genova for 45 mins , so had something to eat.
Encountered the French Police at the border checking passengers and passports, no issues. Finally arriving in Nice at 12.30, with the help of a local obtained a taxi, and found hotel.
Hotel in a very good location, in between the sea and station.
No trains to Monaco today only buses, but fully booked with many tourists, due to long weekend, so we will go tomorrow.
Weather beautiful, clear blue sky, lovely city.
Heading for lunch and some local sightseeing.
Bye for now......

After asking directions, we boarded a ferry which travelled along the main canal, to our hotel. After alighting we climbed many steps up then down, luggage in hand. Sandra remained with the luggage and I endeavoured to locate the hotel. It turned out that it was directly across the canal, so after a few more steps, we arrived.
The hotel was small, but very venetian in its decor. Only issue no lift and we were on the 3rd floor. After booking in, headed out to discover what was on offer. Located in the various lanes were the most shops that I have seen outside of Roma, focus upon local glass creations and leather. We had dinner close to our hotel, right on the waterfront, watching the world go by...beautiful.
Next day we headed off to book our passage to Nice, as system broken the first day. We were informed that all trains full on the 28th from Milan to Nice. Plan b....plane, all booked. Plan C..bus. After some frustration we had to discover where to book the bus, eventually having to travel back into Venice mainland to book. A story in itself. Result being travel to Milan by train, then a 5 hr bus ride to Nice. Only problem, is that the bus did not leave until 7pm. Once booked we headed off by ferry to St Marks Square, to enjoy the magnificent Cathedral and Palace. Enjoyed some lunch and drinks in the sunny square, people watching then travelled back to hotel to get luggage and move to our next hotel. Back on the ferry to the central area, then a 30 min Gondola ride. very enjoyable and scenic.
Dinner then back to next hotel, which was closer to the station as we had a very tight timetable.
The trip continues.......

The last page should obviously have been titled Napoli. Silly me jumped ahead. Anyway to finish off in Napoli, we arose early on the 23rd and caught a taxi to the station, although my better half at a moment of weakness suggested that we walk with our luggage. (Yeah right). We caught train, however was late departing and had to change at Roma, making our arrival in Firenze an hour late. Luckily with the assistance of our booking office in Glen Osmond, (SJ & Jenna) our hotel was within a hundred metres of the station. Upon arrival we were initially informed that we did not have a booking. However the desk staff were helpful and advised that a room was available and that we could sought out the $$ later. By the time we completed the paperwork, confirmation of our booking appeared.
Room was comfortable and much larger than Roma, however we dont think that it makes the 4 star grade.
After dropping luggage we headed off to do the proverbial on/off bus trip to familiarise ourselves with the city. What a beautiful place with the tour taking in the narrow streets full of tourists and then over the bridge to the more scenic larger historical gardens and buildings. We then alighted and booked for a Tuscany Tour the next day. Many shops were then visited (predominately shoe shops for you know who), with a purchase being made. We then enjoyed a beautiful dinner in a piazza, walked home past markets markets markets.
A small sleep in, followed by a satisfactory Italian breakfast, then into the I`Net cafe and attempted further acc bookings. Then followed the bus tour to Tusacany...Chianti.
There were approx 50 on the tour / double decker bus, and a guide providing much information re the history of the area. We stopped at a castle which produces its own wine and olive oil. We toured the underground cellars and then enjoyed a wine tasting of 4 varieties.
Following a scenic route and more information, we alighted to walk up a very steep drive to a church with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.
At this point we were all ready to eat, and our next stop was a family restaurant, where we enjoyed various pastas, pork, beans and sausages...with a terimi sui ???? for desert. This was aided by some red wine from the region.
An hour more and we were back in town, many asleep on the way. A very enjoyable outing.
This morning, breakfast, then onto the train destined for PISA.
The trip took approx 1hr 15 minutes, followed by about a 30 min walk to the "Tower" and surrounding historical buildings..one of course being a church of the large variety.
Mandatory photo`s taken of holding/pushing the tower although the tower must have moved as ours did not quite work out.!!
Back on the train, phone call to the girls (accom booking office), then went looking for the Museum to see the Statue of David.
After another long walk we located the non-descript building and I must say a very impressive statue indeed. There were many other works by Michelangelo both finished and unfinished, apparently he is on leave.
We then tried to make our way back to update our "blog", but yes I got us semi-lost again. Nevermind we are still ...speaking.
Many more markets along the way.
Dinner next, then off to Venice in the morning.
Catch you later with more snit bits. Ciao.

We left Roma via a taxi heading off on a freeway, caused concern for a moment as we were only a 20mins walk from Termini. Anyway it turned out to be OK. At the station, we were only advised of the platform 15 minutes before the train arrived. Nothing like Aus. When boarding the handle broke on the larger bag, Sandra's extras. When we arrived at our compartment, there was a sign saying NO ENTRY.
A guard appeared and tried to move us to another compartment. We (Sandra) waved her hands about and finally he removed the sign and we stayed put. It would appear that he wanted the comp for himself.
Otherwise a safe journey to Napoli. Arrived, first impression dirty, after a friendly driver engaged us, we located acc about 30 min walk from station in an old apartment building (hotel) with a cable lift. Very quaint.
We jumped on a train and went to Pompeii, absolutely wonderful experience.
Next day we went by train to Salerno, then the bus from hell to Amalfi. Beautiful, had a great lunch and returned by ferry.
Times out will update soon. Ciao

We have been in Rome 3 days and leave by train for Naples tomorrow morning. We have really enjoyed our time here and have spent the days walking, walking and walking!!
Our hotel is a 10 mins walk to the Spanish Steps and a 20mins walk to the Colosseo so you can see we are very central to all the major sights.
Our plane was delayed leaving Hong Kong due to bad weather. Instead of leaving at 12:05am we did not leave until 3:30am. After a 12 hour flight we were feeling very tired but made ourselves keep going. We booked into the hotel around mid day - the coach ride from the airport is another story!! Then we found a hop on hop off bus service that we used to get a feel for the city. This kept us going and after having dinner we fell into bed around 9:00.
After a good nights sleep we had breakfast and then began to walk. We walked to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Collosseo, Old Roman ruins and other historical buildings along the way (lots of them!!)
After reserving a seat on the train to Naples we thought we had a straight walk back to the Pantheon for dinner. A wrong turn on the way led to us getting lost and seein more of the city under lights. We finally made dinner at 10:00pm and enjoyed the atmosphere especially the time to rest our weary legs.
Today we spent our time at the Vatican. Certainly know how to build! St Peters Cathedral was spectacular.
We have had lots of laughs and near misses with the local traffic and lack of road rules! Jennas car with its dents would go well here!!
Hope you are all well.

Well we made it to Hong Kong. The trip was pleasant. Good movies for Sandy so she managed to watch 3 and part of a 4th. A record I think.
Hong Kong is a very busy place. It took a while to get use to the pace and number of people. We have done lots of walking. Yesterday we walked to the ferry terminal and caught the ferry to Central. Then we caught a bus to the tram that takes you to the top of Victoria Peak. While the ride up was a bit scarey - very steep climb the trip was worth it as the views were spectacular. At the top there is a viewing platform. We had a drink and something to eat while soaking up the view. That night we walked down to the Cultural Centre at the harbour and watched the "A Symphony of Lights". Finally we walked back to the hotel and fell into bed.
Today we had planned to go and see The Giant Budha on Lantau Island but it was more than a 4 hour trip and we didn't have the time so instead we went to Cheung Chau Island. That showed us a bit more of the real life of the Chinese. A great exprience.
We catch a coach to the airport tonight. Our plane leaves for Rome just after midnight.
Speak to you from Rome.

When planning the trip we thought Easter would be a good time to relax, pack and do any last minute things. What a mistake!! For both of us life has been very hectic and while we are getting excited there hasn't been much time to think about the trip, other than thinking about where we will be sleeping in Hong Kong (1st stop over) and Rome (2nd stop over). Phil is a little worried that we are currently homeless in Rome! What an adventure he will be having.
Phil spent the day at work on Good Friday trying to catch up on last minute things and write a report or 2!!
Sandy spent the day organising a folder for the teacher who will take her class next term - still no decision made.
Sunday we head to Peterborough for lunch with Madge. SJ is making the trip with us but unfortunately Jen has to work.
Monday a good friend turns 50 so we will be spending the afternoon celebrating with her and then its back to work for 4 days.
We depart Adelaide 11:00am Sunday the 15th April and return 17th June.
Bon Voyage!
